About Us
Why Join Us?
So, you're a young professional interested in community service. However, your time is limited, money is tight, and, well, life is a little crazy right now. You need a volunteer group that relates to your lifestyle and takes these limitations into account when planning its activities. That group is Austin Kiwanis Young Professionals.
Every facet of our group is designed with the busy young adult in mind. We meet once a month, and almost all activities, such as service projects and socials, are planned either on weekday evenings or weekends, when young adults are most likely to be available. And dues are extremely low, so you won't have to strain your budget in order to be a member.
Our Purpose
Austin Kiwanis Young Professionals has two main objectives. The first and most important is to provide young professionals with the opportunity to join like-minded individuals who share a passion for volunteering. While there are many young professionals organizations in Austin, few if any focus primarily on performing community service. But we aren't all work - our group also plans several social and networking opportunities throughout the year.
The group's second objective is to introduce members to Kiwanis. Kiwanis is a great organization, but many regular Kiwanis clubs are not formatted with young professionals in mind. Our groups allows a more accommodating transition into the organization than currently exists, so that, if they choose, members may at some point more comfortably integrate themselves into the organization, via joining an existing Kiwanis club or starting a new one. Young adults may also hold joint membership in the group and a Kiwanis club.
Our History
Austin Kiwanis Young Professionals was founded by Clint Carrens, a member of the University Area Kiwanis Club, in October 2008. Over the few months of it existence, the group has been developing its identity, trying out various activities to see what appeals most to our small but quickly growing membership. We are also working on becoming an official entity within Kiwanis. We have submitted our paperwork to the International organization and are eagerly awaiting approval.
What is Kiwanis?
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Members are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanians help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. There are about 8,000 clubs in 96 countries, with a total membership of over 260,000. Austin Kiwanis Young Professionals is proud to be on its way to becoming one of the newest editions to the Kiwanis family.
